Neither team has their presence in Europa League guartanteed
The Saint Etienne vs Lille encounter from the last round of Ligue 1, will settle which team is going to occupy the last Europa League position.
Saint-Etienne is currently occupying the 5th position, currently having one point ahead of their opponent from tonight. They could’ve assured their Europa League position had they won any of the two previous games, but the “Greens” only succeeded in getting a draw against Toulouse and suffered a loss to Nice. These two results came after a streak of 5 victories with clean sheets. Speaking of Nice, Saint-Etienne will be able to take their place into the table in case of a victory.
For the Saint Etienne vs Lille duel, for the home side, Beric, Brison, Bahebeck, Tannane, Malcuit and Tabanou, will all be missing, the latter two being suspended. Sall remains an uncertainty.
Saint-Etienne probable line-up(4-3-3): Ruffier- Teophile-Catherine, Sall, Perrin, Assou-Ekotto – Lemoine, Clement, Cohade – Hamouma, Roux, Monnet-Paquet
Lille is occupying the 6th position at the moment, securing the fact that they are not going to drop. They have not conceded a single goal in the past 3 games, but did not manage to win 2 of these clashes either. We’re obviously talking about two scoreless draws. Out of the previous 9 rounds, these two were the only ones not won by Lille. These two draws came at home against Angers and Guingamp, the sole victory coming away against Lorient. If Lille will not manage to get the victory, they will have to wait for the results from French’s Cup between Marseille vs PSG which will take place on the 21st of May in order to know for certain if they will qualify for Europa League.
Maignan, Martin, Bautheac and Pavard are all injured for the visiting side ahead of Saint Etienne vs Lille, while the team’s main goalscorer, Sofiane Boufal is questionable. Obbadi is also suspended.
Lille probable line-up(4-3-3): Enyeama – Sidibe, Basa, Civelli, Corchia – Mavuba, Amdou, Balmon – Amalfitano, Eder, R.Lopes
Saint Etienne vs Lille statements
Frederic Antonetti (Lille’s coach): ”Let’s not forget the fact that we were sitting on the 15th position, what my players accomplished during this period is truly outstanding”. (l’equipe)
In their first clash this season Lille managed to get a 1-0 win over Saint-Etienne, Benzia scoring at the 60 minutes mark. In the most recent duel at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, Saint Etienne obtained a 2-0 victory, with both goals being score in the second part of the game. A fact that also needs mentioning is that in the past 6 head to head duels, no more than 3 goals have been scored.
