Football predictions – Fenerbahce vs Monaco – Champions League

Fenerbahce is under a lot of pressure from the fans, mainly because they failed to win a single trophy last season or accomplish anything remarkable. As far as the national championship is concerned, they finished behind rivals Besiktas, a thing that fans had hard time digesting and they also lost the Cup final to their other town rival, Galatasaray. The team had plenty of chances of winning both competition, as the gap was very tight in the championship, but failed to secure any eventually. They fared well in the Europa League, but were still knocked out in the Round of 32. At the moment, the main concerns for the team are a place in the Champions League groups and winning the title in Turkey. They have lost a couple of very talented players this summer: Kadlec, Gonul, Alves, Diego, Meireles, Caner and especially the star from Euro – Nani. The team has though brought some back up as well – Skrtel, Wiel, Neustader, Koybasi and Chahechouhe. Given these circumstances, the team still looks more than competitive this season.
Monaco had quite a poor season, way below their expectations, especially on the European level. They were knocked out of the Champions League Play-Offs last year and went into the Europa League group stages, where they only succeed in winning a single game. As far as Ligue 1 goes, they could not handle PSG at all and eventually dropped the runner-up position as well, finishing 3rd behind Lyon. The team has been active on the transfer market, especially defensive wise, new additions being goalkeeper Sanctis, left and right-backs Sidibe and Mendy and defender Gilka. They have also got Falcao on loan, a player that once shone at this formation and they are hoping to revitalize him. In their summer campaign, they managed to defeat Basel and Sporting, but lost against Zenit. A lot of players still need some time to create relationships and forge chemistry, but the team looks good enough to make it towards the UCL groups.
A very balanced encounter is expected between these two sides, as they have pretty much the same value in their squads. Fenerbahce is the home team in this first leg and will pose more problems, but Monaco is an expert at shutting itself down in defense. Due to this reason, I will not be expecting a goal feast in Turkey for the first game between these two.
